Heussenstamm’s own education is as diverse as his touring habits. He's studied with heavy-weight guitarists like Bob Conti, Ted Greene, Tito Guidotti, Joe Pass, Tony Rizzi, and sarod legend Ali Akbar Khan at the Ali Akbar College of Indian Music.
John’s personal blues style has been influenced by B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Albert King, Freddie King and Mike Bloomfield.
He'll tell you he's learned as much from the rhythm section virtuosos he's shared the stage with as he has from his fellow guitarists, these co-conspirators have included Jan Ashley (Mike Reilly, Elvin Bishop), Kofi Baker, Alan Diaz, Baba Elefante, Tom Fowler, Jimmy Haslip, John Heard, Vail Johnson, Matt Marshall, Lester McFarland, Vernon Porter, Lee Rocker, Dave Spurr, and Leo Vigil.
